A spotlight on artist Jos&eacute; Parl&aacute; and his large scale, mesmerizing pieces. The artist has donated a work to the Green Hearts Gala in support of the cause to raise funds for the environment and the people of St Barth.

Jos&eacute; Parl&aacute;&rsquo;s work is an interpretation of the chaos and movement of metropolitan life. The artist paints in a physical manner, creating in connection with the body and producing large scale multimedia works. Using paint, photography, video, and murals as mediums, Parl&aacute; conveys memory, experience, degradation, and renewal. Abstract washes of vibrant color and radial strokes of paint are layered several times on canvases where glimpses of layers beneath shine through. He draws inspiration from music, calligraphy, dance, architecture, and advertisements in these works, and what results are pieces that capture a sense of transience and challenge ideas of identity and how we define an environment. His work has been exhibited in institutions around the globe like The SCAD Museum of Art, Savannah, and The National Museum of Fine Arts, Cuba. The artist currently lives and works in New York city.
The artist is donating his Flag For Future "Wide Awakes Flag Design" (2020) in collaboration with Ut&ouml;pia and Istanbul74 to the Green Hearts Gala. The piece is one of a collection of collaborations between the Flags For Future Project and contemporary artists in an effort to raise awareness for environmental conservation through art. The piece is made from upcycled marine plastic waste, and represents a spirit of creative renewal and the Green Heart's Gala spirit of art for a cause.&nbsp;
