A look at artist Robert Montgomery's work and his donation to the upcoming Green Hearts Gala.

&ldquo;I feel it&rsquo;s a kind of responsibility to critique things that you think are bad &ndash; but I also feel an almost moral obligation to propagate hope&rdquo;, says artist Robert Montgomery. Montgomery&rsquo;s work centers around the idea of creating public discourse, and uses poetry as a means to embed conversation into our public spaces. Using site specific installations and harnessing materials like light and fire, Montgomery creates much needed discourse on a large scale. The Scottish artist, currently based in London, creates pieces that highlight issues of our time, and as such has focused more recently on issues of climate change and collaborating with climate focused organizations. Montgomery states &ldquo;I think the ecological crisis we are facing is the major historical crisis of our time and our generation will be judged on it.&rdquo;
Poetry becomes physical in Montgomery's installations, words come to life with elements like light or fire and pieces often take on a glowing warmth, a healing energy. Poetry is the core of Montgomery's work, offering something sacred, a sense of releif in todays world. The artist has donated a limited edition print of the piece "All Palaces" (2018) to the Green Hearts Gala auction, which will take place on January 3rd 2024 in collaboration with de Pury. The piece is one of many rare and exciting works that will be up for auction on the night for the cause of protecting the environment of St Barth and the health of its people.
