On International Women’s Day, Sotheby’s New York holds space for a benefit with feminist works to support sexual and reproductive healthcare in the United States
“My Body My Business” is the initiative of global feminist activist and Pussy Riot founder Nadya Tolokonnikova, known for her protest art movement.
Titled after artist and activist Michele Pred’s neon light artwork, My Body My Business unites a powerhouse of women artists from both the digital and the fine art worlds. Institutional artists include works by Cindy Sherman, Vanessa Beecroft, Marina Abramovic and Jenny Holzer ranging from $2,000 to $30,000. The auction also features a wide range of NFT art stars, Jen Stark, Sarah Meyoha, Nancy Baker Cahill, IX Shells and Olive Allen with pricing varying from $3,000 to $60,000. Video works by legendary feminist artists Annie Sprinkle and Orlan starting bids at $2,000.
Altogether this event is raising funds for healthcare organizations like Planned Parenthood Federation of America who has joined a blockchain-based public charity and community foundation, Endaoment, enabling donors to connect their crypto wallets and purchase both physical and digital art through blockchain technology. The auction closes on March 14.
