Inspired by Villa Noilles in the South of France, Chanel&rsquo;s SS 2024 show slinked down the runway with languid ease.

Virginie Viard&rsquo;s Chanel SS 2024 collection was inspired by the Villa in Hy&egrave;res, an early modernist villa built in the 1920&rsquo;s by Robert Mallet-Stevens for Charles and Marie-Laure Noailles, friends of Coco. The looks that followed were reminiscent of an easy living french vacation.
The show notes emphasized the laid back nonchalance of the South of France that Virginie Viard translated into maxi dresses with deep v necklines, boxy silhouettes, and a lineup of wearable loose garments. Models wore flip flops down the runway and bathing suits under the signature colorful chunky Chanel tweed. There were loose shirts that buttoned only at the neck paired with sequined joggers, beach-ready striped matching sets, and kaftan-like gowns. Summer in the South of France, for Viard, also means colorful striped textiles, logo jewelry, and glittering accessories. Ballet flats, headbands, and bags that mimicked cameras dotted outfits on the runway.
The show's silhouettes were reminiscent of the 1920&rsquo;s, a return to Coco&rsquo;s era, but with an ease and simplicity that was distinctly modern and authentically Chanel.
