Set under the sun and the historical Pavilh&atilde;o Carlos Lopes building in the center of Lisbon, the 2024 edition of <a href="https://www.nonfungibleconference.com/">NFC Summit</a> kicked off with a clear choice for the creative and gaming communities, with events like <a href="https://x.com/memecon_lol?lang=en">Memecon</a>, fashion stages, and multiple art shows.

While the crypto community was divided between attending Consensus in Austin and NFC Summit in Lisbon, the decision was straightforward for the creative minds. Featuring high profile speakers such as Randi Zuckerberg, Beeple, and Patrick Amadon, the Non Fungible Conference Summit was nothing short of vibrant, brimming with immersive experiences and live performances.&nbsp;
One standout feature was the <a href="https://x.com/aiFilmAcademy">AIFA</a> Awards R3D Carpet, inspired by the glamor of the Cannes Film Festival, under the leadership of Clare Maguire and Leo Crane. Crane, a Hollywood animator, explained how the AI Film Academy attracted like-minded artists. NFC Summit head curator <a href="https://x.com/bygrida">Grida</a> and NFC founder <a href="https://x.com/johnkarp">John Karp</a> encouraged Crane and Maguire to issue an open call for AI film submissions, envisioning a grand web3 Oscars if notable names from six continents participated. Crane emphasized the transformative potential of AI in film: "Everyone knows AI is significant in film, but not everyone realizes its creative possibilities." He highlighted the importance of embracing innovation in cinema, drawing from his own background, as his mother was an MGM starlet in the 1950s.
Crane pointed to the viral video of <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQr4Xklqzw8">Will Smith eating spaghetti</a> as a starting point for AI film, noting the rapid evolution of the medium over just a year. AI has advanced from simple prompts to sophisticated tools like ChatGPTo for emotional storytelling and MidJourney for dynamic visuals. This technological leap allows for the creation of visuals that would have been prohibitively expensive with traditional VFX, saving millions. Attending the event, Michal Toporcer, owner of Prague-based <a href="https://fantasystudios.cz/">Fantasy Studios</a>, praised these developments, noting how AI tools are accelerating movie production and integrating traditional filmmakers into the AI-driven process. Sora, a new OpenAI&rsquo;s text-to-video model, is to revolutionize the integration of AI-generated visuals into fully immersive experiences.&nbsp;

At the sponsor&rsquo;s table, Mathieu Samson, head of ecosystem at <a href="https://www.galxe.com/">Galxe</a> and creator of AI films under the moniker <a href="https://x.com/Solopopsss">Solo</a>, explains the current issue with AI. He notes that the problem lies in the slow motion training necessary to maintain aesthetic appeal. He emphasizes that what sets an artist apart is not just the ability to write a prompt, but all the training involved in creating an AI agent. On the screen, a diverse range of films&mdash;from abstract art to storytelling&mdash;were showcased, culminating in a traditional prize ceremony.
The daytime events featured a variety of larger happenings including a gaming competition hosted by Sandbox&rsquo;s co-founder <a href="https://x.com/borgetsebastien">Sebastien Borget</a>. Most impressively, the main stage was transformed into a gigantic digital gallery spanning 360 degrees of immersive experiences, with predominantly art shows.&nbsp;
One outstanding programming was the #6060ArtShow that brought about one hundred artists each exhibited live for one minute. Further live performances took place during the week by poets <a href="https://x.com/CaballeroAnaMa">Ana Maria Caballero</a> and<a href="https://x.com/LaurenceFuller"> Laurence Fuller</a>, performance artists <a href="https://x.com/madebyoona">Oona</a> and <a href="https://x.com/IrinAngles">Irin Angles</a>, challenging traditional canons of art while enhancing new digital perspectives. &nbsp;

Other anticipated events of the week was a session with the notorious artist Beeple - known for selling an NFT for <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2021/03/11/arts/design/nft-auction-christies-beeple.html">$69 million</a> at Christie&rsquo;s in 2021 - who performed a live digital painting while conversing with <a href="https://x.com/nftnow">nft.now</a> founder Matt Medved. The packed audience, standing and sitting on the floor, found the session both informative and entertaining. Beeple discussed the tools he uses, stressing that "many people fear these new tools, but if they see AI as a way to enhance creativity, it will be fine." His process of live digital painting is a continuation of his daily creative talks since 2015. Using Cinema 4D and magnific.ai, he completed an artwork titled &lsquo;<a href="https://x.com/beeple/status/1795478792506331361">Based Humanity</a>,&rsquo; featuring a group of apes staring at a giant stele with hashtag inscriptions. The piece was created with audience participation and published on X at the end of the 40-minute session.

On the Fashion Stage, numerous panels took place with the primary focus on fashion experts keen on exploring creative possibilities, crafting engaging narratives and building communities in Web3. Similar to <a href="https://www.sandbox.game/en/" style="letter-spacing: 0px;">The Sandbox</a>&rsquo;s collaboration with digital fashion retailer Dressx at the last NFT Paris, "The Art of Runway," experiential initiatives with new avenues and partnerships have become vital to onboard brand strategies on the blockchain. Ashumi Sanghvi, Founder of <a href="https://x.com/Futureplus_xyz" style="letter-spacing: 0px;">Future+</a> , hosted a fireside chat with <a href="https://www.balenciaga.com/fr-fr" style="letter-spacing: 0px;">Balenciaga</a>&rsquo;s Digital Innovation Director, Eric Pires, to highlight their collaboration with Ledger&rsquo;s digital passport, the Balenciaga <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhhKW1_rWmQ&amp;t=52s" style="letter-spacing: 0px;">Ledger Stax</a> Holder, the world's first secure touch screen crypto passport. Additional panels featuring <a href="https://x.com/afrodetz" style="letter-spacing: 0px;">Afrodet Zuri</a>, <a href="https://x.com/gianinaskarlett" style="letter-spacing: 0px;">Gianina Skarlett</a>, and Xing Yunjia founder of <a href="https://xidentity.org/" style="letter-spacing: 0px;">Xtended Identity</a> emphasized the fashion industry's efforts in mixed realities and evolving landscapes.

On the ordinals stage one notable performance by <a href="https://x.com/SeizeCTRL">Seize CTRL</a> presented fake dollar bills in a coffin guarded by performers dressed as executioners in black balaclavas, using the hashtag #fiatfuneral. This performance highlighted the potential failure of governmental financial systems and stressed the importance of educating people about Bitcoin. "The centralized financial system is going to break quicker than people think," one speaker mentioned, advocating for Bitcoin's superiority over gold due to its scarcity and the spread of its message through art. Digital pioneer <a href="https://x.com/TheMarjan">Marjan Moghaddam</a> further exhibiting her Glitch Goddesses on giant screens, discussed the value and archivability of Bitcoin inscriptions as cultural capital, believing in their longevity and cultural significance. She compared the fluctuating costs of inscribing on Bitcoin versus Ethereum.
Bringing incredible talents and high profile players in the digital space together, this edition of NFC Summit was filled with growing spirits eager to impact culture with innovative business collaborations and creative developments. And as notable artist <a href="https://x.com/amadon" style="letter-spacing: 0px;">Patrick Amadon</a> mentioned, this conference was truly built for &ldquo;artist-first&rdquo;. &nbsp;
