Flags for Future goes to Miami Art Basel
Flags for Future, a collaborative project co-curated by UTÖPIA and ISTANBUL’74, continues to make waves at The Standard in Miami as part of D’Puglia.
With the theme “Va’ dove ti porta il vento”—Italian for “Go where the wind takes you”—this upcoming Flags for Future exhibition at The Standard Miami hosted by D’Puglia uses the universal symbolism of flags to spark conversations about urgent environmental challenges. Combining art and sustainability, Flags for Future highlights the necessity of collective action and the transformative power of creativity to inspire meaningful change.
In Miami at The Standard, where a deep respect for nature is woven into the hotels culture, Flags for Future finds a kindred spirit. The project’s dedication to environmental responsibility echoes the island’s ethos, where conservation efforts and artistic expression intertwine seamlessly. In each iteration, the exhibition brings its message to an international audience in a new location, showcasing flags crafted from upcycled fabric materials made from recycled plastic waste.
The exhibition features contributions from more than 40 artists globally, each presenting a unique perspective on sustainability through their designs. This year’s edition introduces eight new flags, expanding the project’s reach. Among the newest additions are pieces by artists Cosma Frascina, Antonio Aricò, Peter Matthews, ADD FUEL as well as Cleon Peterson, Feleksan-Onar, Helen Beard, et Kate MccGwire.
In tandem with Flags for Future, the Miami event includes the Magna Grecia collection, an installation by Italian designer Antonio Aricò and Seletti that reinterprets ancient craftsmanship with a contemporary twist. This integration of cultural heritage and environmental awareness enriches the exhibition, presenting an inspiring blend of timeless craftsmanship and forward-thinking ecological advocacy.
Flags for Future has also partnered with Oceanic Global and Lind Surf for an exclusive auction of twenty unique surfboards designed by twelve global artists. These works of one of a kind surfboard art will be exhibited and auctioned at The Standard in Miami Beach, with bidding starting at $25,000. The boards each merge art and environmental advocacy, with proceeds supporting marine conservation and Oceanic Global’s mission against ocean pollution. The collaboration blends surf and art for a great cause, raising awareness and encouraging action to protect the world’s oceans.
The event will take place at the Standard Spa in Miami Beach. Located on Belle Isle, this building is much more than a hotel. In fact, with its adults-only spa and charming rooms, it offers a peaceful, relaxing setting for guests. The decor blends minimalist elegance with artistic touches, creating a very warm atmosphere. The hotel also features a café, restaurant, gym, boutique, nail salon and intimate indoor bar. As you can see, it's an iconic venue focused on well-being, offering a unique blend of luxury spa and hotel.
This venue will welcome guests for the cocktail reception and event opening on December 1, from 4pm to 7pm, which will be open to the public. As well as a charity dinner accompanied by an auction, offering a memorable evening in a unique setting.
Join artists, partners, and visionaries like The Green Hearts & L’Officiel St Barth for an evening where D’Puglia brings together trailblazers from across the globe to celebrate Miami Art Basel Week at The Standard Spa Hotel.
Savor every moment with San Marzano Wines and Ethica Wines, plus the unique heritage-inspired flavors of Montenegro Amaro and SELECT Aperitivo.
By intertwining art, culture, and sustainability, Flags for Future delivers a powerful message: creativity and collective effort pave the way for a more harmonious relationship with our planet. This December, hosted by D’Puglia, the project invites visitors to engage, reflect, and participate in a movement that transcends borders, emphasizing our shared responsibility to protect the Earth.
