We are here to celebrate and to pay tribute to one cherished friend of Saint-Barthélémy island, Tomas Fischer, who passed away last week.
This Friday, August 26, his family will gather for a memorial service at the Anglican Church In Gustavia at 3 pm. His friends and acquaintances will be welcome.
Tomas Fischer has been very involved in the cultural life of the island of St Barth where he has lived since 1994. He notably helped financially to rebuild the roof of the Anglican Church of Gustavia in Saint-Barthélémy following the passage of Hurricane Louis in 1994 and supported the annual music festival on numerous occasions.
He was a great businessman and book publisher, born December 1, 1940, in Harnösand, Sweden.
Father of 9 children, a patron, and philanthropist, he showed his support for many charities and cultural organizations throughout his life such as the German School, the French School, and the Swedish Helsinki Committee for Human Rights. He was also awarded the French National Order of Merit, the Linnaeus Medal of the Royal Academy of Sciences in gold, and was an honorary member of the Nation of Norrland.
Passionate about literature, music, and science, he was a supporter of the arts and offered large amounts of his wealth to internationally acclaimed museums, theaters, and science organizations.
Tomas left us on this August 14, 2022 swimming between Corossol and the bay of Colombier in the late afternoon. He was a dedicated swimmer and was well-acquainted with the seashore. The Caribbean ocean was his happy place.
The funeral will be broadcasted live from inside the church on Friday, August 26, 2022, at 3:30pm.: https://bit.ly/StBAC_live-streaming
